Heisegim – Ruad: Access to Higher Education

About the program

The program was founded with the goal of increasing accessibility to higher education in towns and communities in Israel’s socio-geographic periphery.
The program operates among young people to raise awareness of the importance of higher education and to increase the number of students from the periphery. The program operates in two branches: Heisegim (“Accomplishments”) – a program for populations from the periphery of Jewish society, and Ruad – a program that focuses on making higher education accessible to Arab society.

Our partners in the program are the Aluma Association, the Council for Higher Education, the Gruss Foundation, and local authorities and youth centers throughout the country.

Goals

  1. To provide higher education for young people in the periphery and in Arab society.
  2. To increase awareness of the importance of higher education among young people in the periphery and in Arab society.
  3. To increase the number of students from the periphery and from Arab society.

Mode of operation

Heisegim operates in 35 Jewish communities and assists approximately 4,000 new students every year.
Each community has a coordinator, who actively identifies young people between the ages of 18 and 30, directs them to the academia, and helps them integrate into academic studies and pre-academic preparatory programs, and supports them in the early stages of studies.

Ruad operates in 70 Arab communities throughout the country and is open to young people in the age range of 15 to 29.
